Local resident Richard Gray introduces his recent book about the artist Malangatana (1936-2011, born Mozambique). The book is the first full-length publication about this pioneer of African Modernism and major figure in the cultural history of decolonisation. Richard gives priority to Malangatana’s own words (to him and others) and a unique set of interviews with the artist's family and friends around the world. He also presents material from Malangatana's personal archive and art collection, kept at his atelier, the Casa-Museu Malangatana in Maputo, which doubled as his family home. Richard's presentation includes exclusive images of the artworks.
