As an alternative to the use of harsh chemicals in the textile industry, I have been experimenting with eco printing using leaves, flowers and vegetables to dye silk. Eco printing is a contemporary application of traditional natural dye knowledge which extracts the pigments from plants and transfers them directly onto fabric using steam. Finding the colours that different plants can produce on fabric is a fascinating journey of discovery.
My abstract paintings are made up of multiple layers of repeating patterns. I make my own brushes from a variety of natural materials to create different marks and textures.
