Event Details

"On this walk, Malcolm Bacchus of the Telegraph Hill Society, will be venturing further afield into New Cross and exploring the history, present and future of its residents and buildings (starting outside the Haberdashers' Aske's Jerningham Road site (see photo)).

Amongst other things, we will find about how the canals and railways transformed a small settlement on the road to Dover into the community it is today; how society changed in Victorian times and how the Naval College developed into Goldsmiths’ University.

Coming up to date, we will also look at what impact the proposals in the Lewisham development plan and the Bakerloo line extension may have for the area. All wrapped up on one of Malcolm’s annual historical and architectural rambles.

Scheduled for a couple of hours but feel free to peel off whenever you like."
