Event Details

In the first 45 minutes of this 90 minute event, Gayatri Munogee will be presenting a traditional Bharatanatyam repertoire bringing to life stories, scriptures and poetry, and using the language of Indian classical dance through movement and expressions. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Bharatanatyam is possibly one of the most popular Indian classical dance forms that began in the ancient temples by Devadasis. Along with stories of gods and demons, love and devotion, it offers an insight into ancient wisdom, practices and epics of India. Gayatri brings some of this to life through her pieces combining both Nritta -pure dance and abhinaya - expressions.

Following the performance there will be a 45 minute workshop where audience members would have the chance to engage with the vocabulary and language of Bharatanatyam and create something innovative, new and fun, something of their own. The idea is to explore something new and absolute beginners are most welcome.
