Event Details

Whilst JoJo Rabbit uses slapstick, comedy and satire to lampoon the rise of fascism and dictatorship in Germany before and during WWII, as seen largely through the eyes of children, the message is far more serious, one of eventual human redemption and hope in the face of gross inhumanity, absurdity and chaos. Based on Christine Leunens's book Caging Skies the film chronicles the intertwining lives of Jojo, a German boy and Elsa, a Jewish fugitive as the war progresses, surrounded by a picaresque cast of humorous, bizarre and menacing characters alongside disturbing, tragicomic and surreal events, culminating in a bittersweet conclusion. The film has won multiple awards, but contains themes and images that whilst integral to the narrative might be considered disturbing to some viewers.

(BBFC rating 12. This film is not suitable for children and young people under the age of 12).
