The original 'replicant' movie, it's prophetic, stunning vision of the dominance of robots and AI is more prescient than ever. Based on Philip K Dick's 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?', Bladerunner channels perennial cinematic sci-fi preoccupations seen in earlier films like 'Metropolis' and even 'Le Voyage dans la Lune'. The central conundrum, what distinguishes replicants from the human forms they replicate. Like Gojira, Bladerunner envisions a post apocalyptic world, familiar yet alien, a hi-tech dystopia of global corporations, environmental degradation, extremes of wealth and poverty, freedom and enslavement, a futuristic film noir, it's central mystery never fully resolved.
