Classics on the Hill Local professional musicians come together to give you a wonderful and varied evening of classical music - one of the most popular events of the Festival!  Suitable for adults and children.

The evening presents serious music in an exciting and entertaining manner - a bit like the best of the Proms packed into a single evening, without the queues (or the orchestra...) and only a short walk away. It will please both old and young (child-friendly especially in the first half  - giving families with early bedtimes the option of leaving early). Previous year's performances have had rapturous receptions, and this has always been a popular event.

St Catherine's Church

 7.30pm

£7.00 (£3.00)

All the performers are local, and are mainly professional musicians with stellar credits having worked with names such as  Elvis Costello, Sting, Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Rufus Wainwright, Paul McCartney, John Williams (Star Wars etc.) and Bryn Terfel to name but a few. Between them they have an extremely impressive recording, broadcasting and performing record.  They include Ian Belton, Sophie Haarris, Fiona McCapra, Adrian Bradbury, Kate Musker, Sally and Jeremy Silver, Sarah Harrison, Igor Outkine, John Bacon, Helen Mills, Ella Rundle, John Myerscough, Mimi Edwards, Andrew Ball and Catherine Edwards

The programme is expected to include extracts from dramatic opera, Musical Theatre, the Schubert String Quintet and Shostakovich's Piano Trio, and performances from Mazaika (unconventional marriage of violin, accordion and voice), tenor and piano and a brilliant young cello duo.
