| Festival Book Group | Meet author Roshi Fernando and discuss her novel Homesick, seventeen interconnected short stories chronicling Sri Lankan immigrants carving out life in New Cross. | Come and meet author Roshi Fernando, and discuss her novel Homesick. The novel is set in South East London, where Roshi used to live, particularly New Cross, Brockley and Dulwich. It uses a series of short stories about individuals - some one-off vignettes, others involving the same individuals separated by years and experience, but all interconnected to a greater or lesser degree - to create a detailed and intriguing reflection of growing up and living in London. The individuals are Sri Lankan, and some have their own issues of identity to confront, but their experiences - some poignant, others hilarious - resonate with us all. Bar available; read the book first if you can, but even if not, come along for a facinating evening! |
