Capoeira Class Friday 25th March 7.pm

Capoeira is an authentic Brazilian martial art, considered to be the most complete exercise and involving coordination, rhythm and balance.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports, music and dance.  It was created in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences, probably beginning in the 16th Century.  It is known by its quick and complex moves, using mainly kicks and quick leg sweeps, with some ground and aerial acrobatics, knee and headbutts.  The word "capoeira" comes from the Tupi-guarani language, referring to the low vegetation areas in the internal part of Brazil.

Japanese Calligraphy Workshop for Children Saturday 2nd April 10.00

Japanese Calligraphy An introduction to the basics - from correct posture and breathing and composing the mind to painting the character/concept of your choice to take home. A single Japanese character denotes "to draw", "to paint" and "to write" - illustrating perhaps the high artistic esteem in which calligraphy is held throughout Sino-influenced Asia.  In this workshop, we will start very simply: the hand position - the nature of the paper; then practising simple characters, building to more complex ones.  To finish, each person can practise a character/concept of their choice, to be drawn on a single length of paper to take home.  Workshop led by Eamonn Lee who graduated in Japanese & Linguistics from Sheffield and the University of Hosei in Tokyo.  He has lived and studied in Japan. Green Shoots, Besson Street
